… The young violinist Maie Bertram performed as a soloist. You won’t be able to hear her for an entry fee of five euros for much longer as she is growing up to be a major talent, who – assuming that there is at least some justice in this world – has a great career ahead of her. There has seldom been as forceful and, at the same time, as clear and lucid a rendition of the first movement of the concerto (by Johannes Brahms). It was real Brahms: at no point was there any self-promoting virtuosic vanity. Maie Bertram masters every technique but does so as a servant of the music. Presenting the work is what matters to her. She herself serves the composer as a medium – and what a medium! She gave expression to both joy and pain while creating unbelievable beauty of such intensity that it hurt at times. She gave a full depth of sound and soul to the wonderful melodies of the adagio, showing herself to be a thoroughbred musician with her virtuoso rendition of the closing movement. It is not easy to describe it all in words; you have to have heard the young violinist…
…unashamedly good…
…A very young, charming and extremely talented violinist, Maie Bertram is master of the music. (…) She rendered the violin concerto in D major, KV 211 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with elegant dexterity. Her competent playing is characterized by self-confidence and energy which endowed every moment with the highest musical quality. This young musician was able to provide a brilliant rendition of the delicate tones, strong emotions and graceful sophistication which are overabundant in this composition. Enthusiastic applause kept calling the young star back onto the stage.
…She left no sound without meaning…
